Key Features

Bandwidth and Temperature for Model Selection

Two characteristics that drive selection for the FSF-5050-480M: the 2 dB bandwidth referenced to ILmin, and the operating temperature range.

Defined 2 dB bandwidth

20 MHz min.

24.3 MHz typical at the 25 °C electrical reference temperature. The attenuation reference is ILmin, the minimum passband insertion loss.

Operating temperature range

−40 to +85 °C

Specified operating range in an eight-pad, leadless SMD package. Evaluate the required signal-band coverage across the intended temperature range.

The 2 dB bandwidth is referenced to ILmin, not an absolute 0 dB level. It must not be relabeled as a 3 dB bandwidth or as a fixed passband-edge limit.

Operating temperature −40 — +85 °C Operating range
Storage temperature −40 — +85 °C Storage rating; separate from operating range

Read ILmin correctly: 2.8 dB is the upper limit for the minimum passband insertion loss. It is not a maximum-loss guarantee throughout the 2 dB bandwidth. The bandwidth is referenced to ILmin, not an absolute 0 dB level.

The FCom sheet does not provide a 3 dB bandwidth, amplitude-ripple limits, or device input/output impedances. It also does not state fixed passband-edge limits. Review the FCom datasheet for the complete supplied information and confirm applicable production limits before design release.

Typical Applications

480 MHz RF Signal Selection

Receiver front-end filtering

Use a bandpass stage for RF signal selection around 480 MHz ahead of subsequent receiver processing. Check the required signal spectrum against the filter response and the system’s loss budget.

Custom UHF band selection

Evaluate the filter in a custom UHF signal path that needs band selection around 480 MHz. Specify the required signal band and attenuation reference, then confirm response and temperature requirements for the application.

Integration Notes

Use the Stated Test Conditions

50 Ω source and load

The measurement circuit uses 50 Ω source and load terminations. No external matching components are shown.

The sheet does not specify the device’s input or output impedance. Confirm compatibility with the intended source and load instead of treating the test terminations as device-impedance values.

Signal band and temperature

The 25 °C electrical reference and the −40 to +85 °C operating range describe different conditions. Electrical limits over the complete operating range are not separately supplied.

Confirm the required passband edges, loss and ripple requirements across temperature. Do not infer a guaranteed 470–490 MHz passband from center frequency and minimum bandwidth alone.

Package & Pin Assignment

Engineering Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 2 dB bandwidth specification mean?

The 2 dB bandwidth is measured relative to ILmin, the minimum passband insertion loss. The FCom datasheet lists 20.0 MHz minimum and 24.3 MHz typical at an electrical reference temperature of 25 °C. These values are not 3 dB bandwidths or bandwidths referenced to an absolute 0 dB level.

Does 2.8 dB mean the maximum loss throughout the passband?

No. The 2.8 dB maximum applies to ILmin, which is the minimum insertion loss within the passband. The typical ILmin is 1.6 dB. This specification does not state that every frequency in the 2 dB bandwidth has insertion loss below 2.8 dB.

Can I assume a fixed 470–490 MHz passband?

No. The datasheet provides a center frequency and a relative 2 dB bandwidth, but does not give a separate fixed 470–490 MHz passband limit or center-frequency tolerance. Confirm the required signal-band coverage and temperature behavior with FCom for the intended design.

Is FSF-5050-480M specified as a 50 Ω device?

The measurement circuit uses 50 Ω source and load terminations and shows no external matching components. Device input and output impedances are not specified. Check the intended source and load conditions before assuming that the published response applies to the system.

Are ripple and full-temperature electrical limits provided?

Amplitude ripple is not specified. The operating range is −40 to +85 °C, while the electrical reference temperature is 25 °C. Do not treat the room-temperature values as a separately stated guarantee over the entire operating range. The storage range is also −40 to +85 °C and is a separate rating.

What should I confirm before ordering or releasing the PCB?

Provide the required signal band, bandwidth definition, source and load requirements, operating temperature, sample quantity and estimated usage. Confirm the complete ordering code, applicable electrical limits, and pad orientation using the FCom package drawing. The listed model name is not confirmation of a complete ordering code.
