Select a modulation profile based on your EMI target and timing budget.

Spread Type Common Options Selection Notes
Down Spread -2.00%, -1.50%, -1.00% Preferred if the clock must not exceed nominal frequency.
Center Spread ±1.00%, ±0.75%, ±0.50% Balanced spreading above/below nominal; verify interface margin.

Modulation carrier frequency is typically 20–52 kHz (configuration dependent).

Pin Assignment

Pin Function Notes
1 Tri-State (OE) High = Enable, Low = Disable (tri-state output)
2 GND Ground
3 Output CMOS output
4 VDD Supply (1.8V / 2.5V / 3.3V option)

Layout tip: keep OE away from noisy nodes and prevent OE from floating during reset. Keep the output trace short and maintain a solid ground return.

Design Recommendations

  • Place a 0.1 µF decoupling capacitor between Vdd and GND as close to the oscillator as possible to suppress noise and improve power integrity.
  • Keep a continuous ground plane beneath the oscillator and along the output return path.
  • If the output trace is long, consider series damping near the source and validate duty-cycle and edge-rate margins at the receiver.
  • When tuning EMI, select spread type and percentage to balance peak reduction with timing budget.

FAQ

How does spread spectrum help reduce EMI?
Spread spectrum slightly modulates the clock so energy is distributed across a wider band, reducing peak EMI at clock harmonics. The actual improvement depends on spread settings and system layout.
Can you provide a custom frequency or stability?
Yes. Send your target frequency, voltage, temperature range, stability grade, and expected load to our team and we’ll recommend a configuration.
